Nomination dossier «The cultural Landscape of the Central Region in the Emirate of Sharjah» (United Arab Emirates)

2020

The preparation of the UNESCO nomination file of archaeological sites located in the Central Region of the Emirate of Sharjah is one of the main projects carried out by ArchaeoConcept since 2017. The file will be submitted to UNESCO in January 2021, so that it can be accepted by the committee in June 2022. The sites concerned are important witnesses of human history, from the way out from Africa in the Upper Palaeolithic to life in the pre-Islamic caravan city of Mleiha. The abundance of the remains and the continuity of occupation of the Central Region through the millennia attest to a fabulous interaction between human groups and the unique semi-arid landscape of this region. For this project, ArchaeoConcept is actively collaborating with local archaeologists as well as with other institutions involved in the nomination.

The nomination file and management plan were submitted to the Sharjah Archaeology Authority of the Emirate of Sharjah in October 2020.
