Consultation for the development of the UNESCO World Heritage sites of Persepolis and Pasargadae

2019

An Iranian working group including the Ministry of Culture and local project managers (Dr. Fadae and Mr. Hossein Karimpourri) asked ArchaeoConcept to visit the sites of Persepolis and Pasargadae, in order to propose a list of advice and actions for the management and promotion of tourism at these sites. Cynthia Dunning Thierstein and Ellinor Dunning undertook this trip in February 2019, which led to the presentation of a report to the Ministry of Culture in Tehran. Based on this report, the Iranian authorities proposed that ArchaeoConcept coordinate a project to enhance the modern ruins of the adjacent Pasargadae Museum, whose construction was abandoned when the Shah of Iran was deposed in 1979. This project would have involved the construction of a new museum, including a discourse on the history of the abandoned museum, the collections that should have been presented there, and the display of the archaeological remains of Pasargadae.
