Archaeology of Waterfronts (Mizube to Iseki no Kokogaku) (Niigata, Japan)

2013

On the recommendation of Simon Kaner of the Sainsbury Institute for the Study of Japanese Arts and Cultures, Cynthia Dunning Thierstein was invited to Niigata (Japan) in February 2013 to present the pile-dwelling sites around the Alps together with Kasia Gdaniec of Cambridgeshire County Council (UK). These lectures contributed to the discussion of the importance of wetland prehistory in Japan, particularly around the Shinano-Chikuma river system in Niigata Prefecture.
